Eve Ensler Reading and Book Signing

Dreamcatcher attended the Eve Ensler Reading and Book Signing for her latest book, I Am An Emotional Creature, The Secret Life of Girls Around the World held at the University of Chicago on April 10th. Eve not only read portions of her book, but spoke about the V-Day Foundation’s efforts in Haiti to help women obtain services after the earthquake. She also discussed the opening of the City of Joy in the Democratic Republic of Congo, a center where women systemically raped during the civil war can heal and grow.

We were so overwhelmed by the support that Eve showed our organization, and she honored our attendance by allowing Brenda and Stephanie to speak about how their efforts to reach out to women and girls escaping prostitution are not so different from the women that travel across Africa to reach out to women and girls escaping female genital mutilation. She asked the audience to support our mission, and agreed to match what they would contribute with her own donation.

Having the support of incredible women like Eve Ensler and the support of foundations like the V-Day foundation is such an honor for our organization, and this event was a wonderful opportunity to connect to members of the community that share in our love of supporting girls in their growth.
